A story about the Bog Oak Ring

I received an email from a guy named Paul from London on the 15th Nov:- Hi I wonder could you help me. I am trying to get someone to make me a bog oak ring for a special occasion in a few weeks time, I have tried several people in Ireland and they all declined to help me. Could you make one for me. I was about to reply to him and say no as well but for some reason decided to do it later in the day. We were very busy at this time of year trying to get all orders out for Xmas. As luck would have it

( for Paul not me) a machine broke down and it would take 3 to4 hours to fix.

I decided to email Paul and say I would give it a try and let me know the size of the finger.

Paul replied, “ Good man yourself, I do appreciate the effort you are making and it will have a good story to go with it as well. If she says no it’ll be a drinking partner I’ll be after though, thanks again”. P.S. Her ring size is 15mm.

Well I spent the next two hours working on a piece of 5000 year old bog oak, boring and shaping until eventually I managed to finish a ring, I was quite pleased myself with it. It was black in colour; slightly irregaler in shape with a raised bit to give the impression of a diamond and it looked 5000 years old like a relic.

I emailed Paul to say the ring was ready and I will post it tomorrow. Back came the reply “ Great news John, cant wait to see it, like I said the idea is to have a ring of some symbolic significance to put on my girlfriends finger ( if she says yes ) until we go shopping for her engagement ring.”

Three days later Paul emails me again;- “ Hi John, I was worried it wouldn’t arrive before the weekend but I got the ring this morning. Lovely job and perfect for I what it for. Thanks again and let me know how much I owe you for it.”

Four days later I get my last email from Paul;- “ she said YES and loved the ring ring. Happy Christmas and thanks again, Paul.”

Well what can you say ———— there’s love for you.
